“Shoplifters”
Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for this wonderful, understated drama. SHOPLIFTERS follows a group of misfit petty criminals, young and old, who form a family unit and share a small apartment. Despite the family’s troubles, Koreeda finds moments of humor in this poignant and affecting film.
