International Film Club: paying attention to Komorebi

During our recent IEGAP film club meeting, we watched selected short clips from the film Perfect Days, which sparked a thoughtful and engaging conversation within our group. The film’s quiet, contemplative tone and beautifully framed scenes invited us to reflect on themes of routine, solitude, and the subtle beauty of everyday life. Each participant brought a unique perspective, and our discussion touched on the emotional depth of the protagonist, the use of visual storytelling, and how the film’s minimalist approach resonated differently with each of us. It was a meaningful exchange that deepened our appreciation for the film’s artistry.

We also learned what the Japanese word Komorebi means and how it guided the main protagonist. Komorebi i (木漏れ日) refers to the sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees—the interplay of light and shadow created when sunlight passes through foliage.
